LEAD PRODUCER

The Project: America in Transition is a Sundance-backed documentary series and community engagement campaign exploring relationships, family, and social issues for trans people of color. Director, André Pérez, founded the Trans Oral History project seven years ago motivated by the isolation he felt growing up in a military family in Virginia. The Job: The Producer is expected to be a full partner in the production and will work closely with the Director to coordinate logistics of the documentary series. The Producer will help the production team work together effectively, plan production trips to various locations around the country, and help secure more funding for the project. The position is at least 20 hours per week, and all of this work can be done remotely. The Producer will be compensated with a modest flat rate up front and an equity stake in the project (a percentage of the budget they help raise).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researching distributors and helping prepare materials for pitches
  • Researching grants and helping prepare grant applications
  • Courting large donor and other strategic partners
  • Representing America in Transition at Labs, Film festivals, and pitch sessions
  • Providing guidance on navigating film industry spaces
  • Helping to create and maintain a production schedule (with input from others on the team)
  • Recruit and help select professional collaborators who are passionate, committed, and skilled
  • Track and remind of deadlines (grant deadlines, production deadlines, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

MULTIMEDIA CONTENT PRODUCTION INTERN

OVERVIEW

America in Transition is a documentary series and community engagement campaign exploring relationships, family, and social issues for trans people of color across the country. A central way that this trans media project operates is by connecting and engaging community online. LIVE in Transition is a brand new a breaking-news style 30 minute long Facebook LIVE show. LIVE in Transition will help generate timely information about how trans people are impacted by current events and mobilize allies to step up and take action to support trans-led efforts. LIVE in transition will focus on a remote interview with a trans activist and will also include some pre-recorded segments (an intro, trailer, and outro).

THE POSITION

America in Transition is looking for a Multimedia Content Production Intern who can work with the Director to help develop, research, and execute LIVE in Transition. In preparation for the LIVE broadcast, the Intern will be responsible for researching contextual information for the monthly show, creating and publishing an informational blog entry leading up to the show, and contributing ideas for new segments that will engage our audience. During the LIVE broadcast, the student will be responsible for operating the equipment and software (OBS) necessary to run the livestream. After each show, the Intern will participate in debriefs with AIT staff, cut the some of the content from the shows into teasers, and post to social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, and Medium). The position is 10-15 hours per week based on the availability of the applicant with one day of in-person work combine with take home assignments, and goes through November 28th.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assemble contextual information that will help host and audience member better understand issues addressed in each episode.
  2. Create one blog entry per month that gives more in depth information about a topic addressed in the broadcast.
  3. Prepping livestreams in advance: including adjusting layouts, requesting and/or creating graphics, routing audio, testing before episodes, meeting with the America In Transition team to set goals
  4. Managing livestreams in progress: switching scenes as necessary, adjusting audio and anything else necessary to make each episode progress smoothly
  5. Working with hosts and guests to ensure optimal sound, video and streaming quality: setting up hardline internet connections, adjusting local volume and camera quality, suggesting hardware upgrades, general troubleshooting
  6. Moderating livestream chats alongside volunteer moderators

ONLINE ENGAGEMENT & MARKETING INTERN

OVERVIEW

America in Transition is a documentary series and community engagement campaign exploring relationships, family, and social issues for trans people of color across the country. A central way that this trans media project operates is by educating allies, connecting trans people with one another, and promoting advocacy opportunities online.

THE POSITION

America in Transition is looking for support with creating and posting regular content to social media that engages trans community members and allies around issues impacting trans people of color. The Online Engagement & Marketing  intern will help draft statements about current events, create layouts for newsletters, find and promote ways for our online community to take action on social issues, and generally execute content ideas. and goes through December 1st. The position is 10-15 hours per week based on the availability of the applicant with one day of in-person work combine with take home assignments, and goes through November 28th.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in weekly meeting to brainstorm social media content
  • Keep abreast of emerging trans issues in the media that we can use to spark conversations
  • Create educational visuals that help communicate information clearly and concisely on social media such as infographics
  • Create promotional materials for events (ie. banners, Facebook events, and flyers)
  • Create a monthly newsletter using mailchimp (layout, sourcing content from our team, making it concise, etc.)
  • Monitor social media pages to maintain a positive and supportive environment for community building
  • Respond to inquiries for screenings, volunteers, etc. by forwarding information to the appropriate AIT staff

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and/or Indesign
  • Ability to work consistently (ie. post four days a week)

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER INTERN

OVERVIEW

America in Transition is a documentary series and community engagement campaign exploring relationships, family, and social issues for trans people of color across the country. The series has three out of six episodes cut for educational purposes. We are recutting the episodes for an small online release in November. We are looking to secure a partner to help the online release reach a wider audience in November. And we are seeking a distribution deal this fall for the entire first season to be released next spring.

THE POSITION

The Associate Producer will aid in the post-production and distribution processes. The Associate Producer will help set up a test screening in November to gather responses and critical feedback to integrate into our content before it is published online. The Associate Producer will work support the Director and Producer in executing steps to ensure financial sustainability and distribution of the series for Spring 2018 by researching distributors, film festivals, and other venues for completed episodes. The Intern will also work give input to refine and improve pitch decks as well grant applications. The position is 10-20 hours per week based on the availability of the applicant with one day of in-person work combine with take-home assignments and goes through November 28th.

  • Plan and attend regular meetings to maintain momentum with Community Advisory Board and other stakeholders.
  • Plan production trips (make travel reservations, ground transportation, verify baggage requirements, research local drone laws, etc.)
  • Ensure that Production Team and Community Advisory Board have access to all of the documents they need (ie. contracts, interview questions, mood boards, etc.)
  • Send files to the appropriate people (ie. make sure the composer gets a version of the film without music, the transcriptionist get audio from interviews immediately, and the translator has what they need)

BILINGUAL LINE PRODUCER

The Job: The Producer is expected to be a full partner in the production and will work closely with the Director to coordinate logistics of the documentary series. The Producer will help the production team work together effectively, plan production trips to various locations around the country, and help secure more funding for the project. The position will require about 15 hours of pre-production, 4 days of shooting, and 5 hours of post production. Preference for a candidate based in LA, but planning work can be done remotely. The Line Producer will be compensated with a flat fee of $1,000 for their time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arranging a 4-day shoot in Los Angelos with an undocumented trans person (we will identify the person who will participate in the project through a community group)
  • Creating the day of plan
  • Being live on set during the shooting
  • Helping to give feedback on the final episode with the editor
