The tour started with a bang in North Carolina. 200 people joined us between the Intersectionality in Our Work workshop with UNCC Staff and a student screening and conversation with Director, Andre Perez and storyteller, Tiommi Luckett. On the heels of the news that HB2 had been fake repealed, we also were excited to meet up with Ignite NC folks to talk about supporting organizing efforts. We were excited that local trans folks included AIT footage in a Charlotte’s Trans Day of Visibility event as we headed off to VA.

In Charlottesville, Virginia we were touched and honored to meet Ms. Cookie (center left), grandmother of Sage Smith. Sage Smith (right) was a black trans woman who disappeared in 2012. After putting off meeting the family and refusing to investigate for years, the police changed Sage’s case to a homicide while we were on the road. News organizations dead-named and mis-pronouned Sage, adding insult to injury. Too many of our sisters have died already this year. Join Campaign for Southern Equality for a self-defense pop-up workshops.

We spent the weekend in Springfield, Missouri where we strategized with youth about how to deal with family members who don’t quite get it during the GLSEN LGBTQ Youth Leadership Summit (left). We also met up with rural queer families to talk about how to better support them (right).

DONATE TO BRING AIT TO RURAL COMMUNITIES

This just in: AIT Coming to Docs in Progress Residency and Series Fest!

Do you have a friend, lover, or family member who works in higher education? Help bring trans people of color to schools so that we can support community members, activate allies and change public perception.

50% of our budget to make this series has come from screenings at educational institutions, and it enables us to do low-cost community screenings (like in VA). We still have to raise enough money for 3 more episodes so that we can share trans stories about immigration, two-spirit communities, and civil rights!

How? Tell your contact how much you believe in this work and share our booking page on our website OR better yet — e-introduce us so that we can tell them about it ourselves. Our email is BookAmericaInTransition@gmail.com
